Durham v Northamptonshire

Venue: Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club (NG8 3FH)

The lads made the trip down to Nottingham looking to reverse last year’s 28 shot Play Off Final loss to Northants.

An unchanged Durham line up got off to a flier and opened up a 14 shot lead which was maintain for the majority of the final.

Defending champions Northants then got on a late roll and managed to get it back to just 4 shots with one end left to play. Darlington’s Tony Macey had the task of seeing out the nail biting last end and settled losing a double to leave the lads winners albeit by a couple of shots.

Overall it was a great game of bowls played in a great spirit by both counties.

Across the green it was a three-three split, our top rink was Alan Hind (Hartlepool), Mal Peach (Sth Shields Vipers), Barry Attwood (Great Aycliffe) and Dale Oram (Sth Shields Vipers) got home 25-11. Darlington’s Mark Jones won by 11 and Stanley’s Keith Minnis ground out a 3 shot win.

There were narrow defeats for Stanley’s Brian Houghton and Hartlepool’s Stevie Slaughter with Darlington’s Tony Macey losing by 11 shots but saw the lads over the line.

Many congratulations to everyone that played or was selected as reserve and a big round of applause to the supporters who have followed the lads around this season……… and we do it all again next season.
